Mission Plan Mission and Pastoral Commitee The new Deanery Pastoral and Mission Committee (DPMC) required by the Dioceses’ Pastoral and Mission Measure 2007, will be a strategic mission and ministry group, which will advise on vacancies, clustering and boundaries. It will need its own minutes and will judge its proposals against the Deanery mission plan. Synods can have whom they want on this committee, but if they are elected it gives authority. Members will need to have a balance of skills. This committee has a very different role from standing committee, where the role is to prepare for Synod meetings. 2008 is intended as the year in which GFT>>>2020 moves from being a vision to becoming earthed in Deanery Mission Plans which inform local mission and advise the Bishop and Archdeacon in an integrated way. The DPMC will need to build a reputation and win ownership of its decision-making by trust in its competence. Churchwardens are gatekeepers in parishes and they will need to have confidence in the DPMC. We need people who will be “seriously involved team players”, who will discern, pray, relate and strategise together. Synod members will need an overview of the total ministry of the deanery, as the mission plan has to be a working document and one that enables local mission. From this the DPMC will advise senior staff of the local situation so central decisions are not made that inhibit local mission. Teamwork is essential, both by individual members and parishes.
